Maltese Registered Vessel Disappears

A Maltese registered vessel, the ARCTIC SEA is reported to have disappeared off the communications map as it failed to reach the port of Bejaia in Algeria. The Russian owned vessel was transporting timber from Finland to Algeria. According to the Malta Maritime Authority the vessel was hijacked with 15 crew member on board. She disappeared on July 28 off the Swedish coast and was last recorded off the Portuguese Coast.
The vessel, built in 1991, is said to be owned by a firm based in the Russian port of Arkhangelsk. According to informed sources, the Russian navy and the Federal Security Services FSB are searching for the ship.
