Abandoned MV NICEA Auctioned-off for €851,000

The saga of the 16 crew members of MV Nicea, which was arrested in Malta after the Turkish owning company Erwina Shipping Ltd. defaulted on payments, was auctioned in Court yesterday. The vessel was sold for €851,000 and was bought by MSK, a company registered in the Marshall Islands.
The crew and the vessel were left abandoned in Malta since March and as all provisions of fuel and food finished the crew had to rely on the generosity of the Maltese, particularly the Malta Transport.
Part of the auction price will be used to pay the crew’s salaries and also to pay for their repatriation. The crew thanked the Maltese public for their hospitality.
