Radio Licences

Provisional Radio Licence:

Provisional Radio Licence:

The following are required to be submitted before a yacht is registered provisionally under Malta flag:-

  1. Inventory of radio equipment installed on board
  2. Copy of the present radio licence

Upon receipt of the above, MSD should be in a position to establish whether the yacht falls under the G.A. regime or not as published under the General Authorisations (Radiocommunications Apparatus Regulations (S.L. 399.40).

A ship radio station licence is not required to be issued for a yacht if fitted with a VHF/DSC radio apparatus as primary installation since it falls under the mentioned regulations.

If a yacht is fitted with MF/HF installation on board a yacht, the application for provisional radio licence duly completed is required to be submitted for the issuance of a provisional station radio licence.

In both cases, the following are required to be submitted within six months for the provisional registration:-

  1. Details of the appointed Accounting Authority (AAIC) responsible for the settlement of the radio traffic accounts. One may also opt to submit a written declaration confirming that they will handle all the radio traffic accounts originating from on board subject vessel.
  2. Radio Installation Inspection Report endorsed/stamped by a qualified radio technician or else a Government surveyor. Nevertheless, survey reports issued by a radio company or else from a Classification Society should be accepted, subject that these reports are endorsed accordingly.
  3. Details of a 24hr Emergency Contact Person ashore.

Full term Radio Licence:

The following are required:-

  1. Application for the issuance of a full term Ship Ashore Licence
  2. Other requirements depending on the equipment installed on board

A renewed radio licence is issued upon receipt of a copy of a physically signed declaration stating that no changes have occurred to the radio equipment and all is in working order. A renewed radio station licence shall be issued valid for a period of not more than thirty-six months. Owner can opt for the renewal of the radio station licence to be issued valid either for one (1), two (2) or three (3) years.
