Liberalisation of Petrol, LRP & Diesel Markets

The Cabinet approved the final targets of a consultation paper on fuel liberalization on Monday 13th April 2006 and among these targets one can find standard upgrades, elimination of bureaucracy and cheaper prices for the consumer. Liberalization will give the opportunity to service station owners to import petrol, LRP and diesel.
Approval of the paper is anticipated for next week leading the way for the late liberalization of the sector. Meanwhile the Malta Resources Authority has advised that the market is expected to open in July while the consultation paper will be made available to interested parties.
Once adopted, MRA is expecting and persisting higher standards while emphasizing the price of service, quality and safety can be improved.
