Cuban Seafarers Still Welcome On-board
17 / 01 / 14
The European Commission has confirmed that seafarers trained at facilities on the Caribbean island continue to satisfy the relevant requirements laid out in the STCW Convention (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978) and will continue to be allowed to work on board ships under EU flags. The EC took the decision to extend Cuban recognition based on the positive outcome of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) inspections in 2011 and the information that was provided by the Cuban authorities.
